Porcelain Veneers in South Jordan, UT

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of dental ceramic bonded to the front of your teeth to transform shape, color, alignment, and proportion. They're the treatment of choice for patients who want a fundamental change to their smile, not just a brighter shade. Because modern veneers can be remarkably thin and conservative, Dr. Osborne can often achieve dramatic results while preserving most of your natural tooth structure.

What veneers can do

Veneers can close small gaps between teeth, correct minor crowding without orthodontics, fix chipped or uneven edges, lengthen teeth that have worn down, and permanently whiten teeth that don't respond to bleaching. Because they cover the front of the tooth entirely, the result can be as dramatic as you want while still looking completely natural.

They're most often recommended for the six to ten teeth that show when you smile. Some patients do just two or four veneers on specific teeth; others do a full set to transform the entire smile. Dr. Osborne will work with you to determine the scope that delivers the outcome you want.

The design process

Veneers are a cosmetic procedure, and great cosmetic outcomes start with great planning. The first appointment is a smile consultation where we take photos, discuss your goals, evaluate your current smile, and often create a digital or physical mock-up so you can preview the design before any treatment begins. This is important: you should be able to see and approve the plan before teeth are shaped.

Dr. Osborne thinks about veneers the way a portrait artist thinks about a face. Tooth shape, length, proportion, the way the teeth relate to your lip line, the way they catch light, all of it matters. The goal is a smile that looks completely natural for your face, not a generic Hollywood smile.

The placement process

Once you've approved the design, veneer placement typically takes two visits spaced two to three weeks apart. At the first, Dr. Osborne prepares the teeth by removing a very thin layer of enamel (usually less than half a millimeter) to make room for the veneers. Impressions or a digital scan are taken, and temporary veneers are placed.

The permanent veneers are crafted by a skilled dental ceramist and are ready about two to three weeks later. At the second visit, we try them in, check the fit and shade, and once everything is right, they're permanently bonded to your teeth. The bonding process creates an extremely strong connection; modern veneers are remarkably durable.

Caring for veneers, and how long they last

Veneers are cared for essentially the same as natural teeth: brushing twice daily, flossing daily, and regular cleanings. Avoid using your teeth as tools (biting fingernails, opening packages) and consider a night guard if you grind, since veneers can chip or come off under excessive force.

With good care, porcelain veneers typically last 15 to 20 years, often longer. When replacement is eventually needed, the process is similar to the original placement. Veneers are considered a permanent commitment because enamel has been removed during preparation, so the decision to get them is one to make thoughtfully, but the quality-of-life benefit for patients who've been self-conscious about their smile is enormous.

Common questions

Will my veneers look fake?

Not if they're well designed. Modern porcelain has remarkable translucency and light-handling properties, and the best ceramists can create veneers that are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. We also avoid the 'Chiclet-teeth' look that made older veneer work so obvious. Your veneers should look like your teeth, only better.

Can veneers come off?

Very rarely when placed properly. The bonding process creates an extremely strong mechanical and chemical connection between the veneer and the tooth. The most common cause of a veneer coming loose is trauma (hit to the mouth) or extreme force from grinding. If it happens, the veneer can usually be re-bonded.

How much do veneers cost?

Per-tooth costs for porcelain veneers typically range from $1,200 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the case and the lab we're using for fabrication. Most smile makeovers involve six to ten veneers. We provide detailed written estimates at consultation so there are no surprises, and we offer financing options that spread the investment over manageable monthly payments.
